What this category means
This is not a general pathway for anyone with military service. It is tied to the Canadian Armed Forces’ Foreign Skilled Military Applicant process and an eligible arranged-employment offer.
Category eligibility comes after Express Entry eligibility
You must first qualify for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program or Federal Skilled Trades Program and have a valid Express Entry profile. A category does not replace those program rules.
Who may qualify
- Be eligible for at least one of the three federal programs managed by Express Entry.
- Have a valid profile in the Express Entry pool when IRCC holds the round.
- Meet every requirement in the ministerial instructions for that specific round.
- Be an eligible foreign national serving in a recognized foreign military with at least 10 years of continuous service.
- Have work experience and training aligned with the main duties of NOC 40042, 42102 or 43204.
- Have arranged employment offered by the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group for continuous, full-time work in Canada lasting at least 3 years in one of those NOCs.
- Have at least a 2-year post-secondary credential; foreign education requires an Educational Credential Assessment showing Canadian equivalency.
- Meet every requirement in the ministerial instructions for the specific invitation round.

A narrow Canadian Armed Forces recruitment category
This is not a pathway for ordinary military service or conscription history. The candidate must first fit IRCC’s Foreign Skilled Military Applicant definition and have a qualifying Canadian Armed Forces employment offer.

Foreign Skilled Military Applicant
Currently serving in a recognized foreign military, with at least 10 years of continuous service and work experience and training aligned with NOC 40042, 42102 or 43204.

Canadian Armed Forces offer
An offer made by the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group for continuous, full-time work in Canada for at least 3 years in one of the same three NOCs.

Education requirement
At least a 2-year post-secondary credential. Foreign education needs an equivalency assessment that meets the round instructions, including the applicable validity period.
Past conscription, reserve affiliation or general foreign military service does not create category eligibility. The candidate must satisfy the complete FSMA, employment-offer, education, Express Entry and round-specific requirements.
Latest 2026 skilled-military round
Round #430 was the first Skilled Military Recruits, 2026-Version 1 round and issued only four invitations.

The invitation total of four reflects the exceptionally narrow category. CRS 368 is historical and cannot be generalized to other Express Entry or military-related cases.

An invited candidate must prove both program and category eligibility with documents and remain admissible to Canada.

- Post-secondary credential and an immigration-purpose ECA for foreign education

Important limits
- Meeting a category requirement does not add separate CRS points and does not guarantee that IRCC will hold a round for that category.
- The category occupation list, work-experience period and round instructions can change. The live IRCC page and the instructions for the exact round control.
- An invitation does not remove the need to prove the underlying Express Entry program, the CRS score claimed, category eligibility and admissibility.
- A job title alone is not enough for an occupation category. The evidence must support the correct NOC lead statement and main duties.
Frequently asked questions
Does compulsory military service make me eligible?
No. The category requires current service in a recognized foreign military, at least 10 years of continuous service, aligned training and experience, and a qualifying Canadian Armed Forces offer.
Can a former member of a foreign military qualify?
The published FSMA definition refers to an eligible foreign national who is serving in a recognized foreign military. Former service should not be assumed to meet that definition.
Is a general job offer from a Canadian employer enough?
No. The qualifying offer must come from the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group and meet the duration, full-time and NOC requirements in the instructions.
Which military NOCs are listed?
Commissioned officers of the Canadian Armed Forces (40042), specialized members (42102), and operations members (43204).
Is 10 years of service flexible?
The published definition requires a minimum of 10 years of continuous service. Shorter or interrupted service should not be treated as satisfying that requirement.
Does foreign education require an ECA?
Yes. A foreign post-secondary credential needs the required equivalency assessment, while the credential itself must represent at least a two-year post-secondary program.
Does category membership bypass security or military screening?
No. Category eligibility does not remove admissibility, security, medical, recruitment or Canadian Armed Forces requirements.
Does CRS 368 predict another military round?
No. It was the lowest score among the four invitations in round #430 only.
