Read the effective date, expiry and exact class before relying on a policy.

Confirm the policy is in force on the filing date. A listed policy may be archived, replaced, extended, conditional on legislation, or limited to applications already submitted.

Identify the beneficiary class, location, nationality or residence, arrival/status date, existing application, family relationship and required document.

Check which requirements are exempted. A policy does not waive medical, criminal, security, identity, truthfulness or any condition it does not name.

Save the official version and filing evidence. Expiry may end new eligibility while properly submitted files continue under the terms stated in the policy.

Iran measures — who can actually apply until March 31, 2027
The March 1, 2026 policy is a narrow work-permit extension measure. It is not a general open-work-permit policy for every Iranian visitor, student or former worker in Canada.
Nationality and passport
The applicant must be an Iranian national with a valid passport. A permit cannot be issued beyond the passport expiry date.
Location and current permit
The person must be in Canada with a valid work permit both when the extension is submitted and when IRCC decides the application.
Original permit date
The valid work permit relied on for this measure must have been issued on or before February 28, 2025.
One extension under this policy
A person already granted a work-permit extension under the March 1, 2026 special measure cannot receive a second exemption under the same policy.
Possible validity
An eligible applicant may request an in-Canada extension that could be valid for up to 2 years, subject to passport validity and the officer's decision.
Deadline
IRCC must receive the complete application on or before March 31, 2027. The policy may be revoked earlier without notice.

Apply online from inside Canada using the application to extend worker status and upload the passport or travel-document copy in the requested field.

Pay the standard fees: CAN$155 for work-permit processing, plus CAN$100 when the open-work-permit holder fee applies, and biometrics fees if required.

Continue to meet ordinary work-permit eligibility and admissibility rules, including medical, criminal, security, financial and employer-compliance requirements not waived by the policy.

If a complete extension is filed before the current permit expires, maintained status may allow continued work only under the expiring permit's conditions while IRCC decides.

Visitors and study-permit holders cannot change to a different permit under these special measures. They may extend their current visitor or student status through the regular process if eligible.

Francophone Minority Communities Student Pilot (FMCSP)
Study-permit policy
Eligible citizens of listed Francophonie countries need admission to a participating DLI in a full-time, at-least-two-year, mainly French program and NCLC 5 in all four abilities.
Funds
The temporary policy modifies the ordinary financial threshold: first-year tuition and travel plus 75% of the applicable low-income cut-off, with supporting evidence.
2026 annual cap
Part A provides up to 2,970 initial study-permit applications per year under the policy; a school’s participation does not guarantee space or approval.
Family
Qualifying accompanying spouse/partner and dependent children may have related temporary-residence options, but each person submits the correct application and meets admissibility.
Dates
The 2026 study-permit policy is set to expire August 25, 2027. The related PR/family policy is set to expire November 30, 2032 unless revoked earlier.

Natural-disaster policies operate only when the triggering situation applies.
People affected inside Canada
The 2026–2028 policy can provide fee/status relief to eligible foreign nationals affected by a designated domestic natural disaster. It is not a general fee waiver for everyone in the province.
Emergency personnel
A separate policy facilitates eligible foreign emergency-services personnel invited to assist Canada after a qualifying natural disaster.
Current period
Both policies took effect April 1, 2026 and are scheduled to expire November 30, 2028 unless revoked earlier.
Active country and health special measures must be checked immediately before travel or filing.
